Is there a good historical example for a company bailing on hardware early and succeeding by rushing to the next gen? It caused Sega problems repeatedly. Microsoft bailed on the original Xbox and eventually succeeded with the 360, but they gave the Xbox about 4 years and stumbled for a while with the 360.
Dark Souls is hard, but fair. Collision detection is spot on, every enemy can be beaten without taking damage if you're skilled enough. It's a game that requires you to pay close attention and learn your enemies. If you die, it's due to inexperience, sloppiness, or both. Not because the game is poorly made.
Dark Souls wasn't actually terribly hard, it just had a very steep learning curve at the beginning. Once you progressed past the first couple areas it became much easier (mainly due to having a solid understanding of the game play)

I don't buy that explanation for their color, considering that they ignored EVERY OTHER ASPECT of cockroach anatomy.
That was pretty cool.
Glad to hear you like it Tina! You should check out the previous Souls games now that you are done with DS2, they are all great.
I once bumped into the same player that took on a boss with me and died and we were so excited to see each other again we just kept dropping gestures. It was a lot of fun :)
I've found the most satisfying thing is to lead another player through a part of the level they missed in order to get a leg up on the boss. And then we tear the boss a new asshole together. Like the medusa in DS 2 and the windmill, etc. It's always fun to see someone repeatedly do pose or stance to show their…
Well said Tina, I'd also add that the thing about souls games that people don't mention as often as the difficulty is that their sense of exploration, environment/creature design, and subtle storytelling style, are also absolutely fantastic.
