Nominations for things like this seem to decide themselves. I guess the nature of a GOTY is that it can't help but enter the discussion, and I personally feel that way about RDR and Mass Effect 2, but when I see a game like this nominated I can't help but wish there would be some risk-taking with these nominations.

I think it's genre-dependent. I personally think sports game should strive for absolute realism. Shooters, not so much.
