It looked to me like the larger ship was trying to get around the smaller slower ship but ran out of water when it bottlenecked to a narrower channel. It appears he tried to cut over in front but the other dude in the smaller boat went all Kyle Bush on his ass and rammed him rather than give up the position.

There aren't enough NOPES on Earth to adequately express my opinion on this.
