Tesla’s have pulled off some incredible feats of seeing “through” the car in front of them in the past. Some to the point that I’m not confident even a good human driver could have prevented the collision, but the Tesla did.

Colour could presumably impact contrast detection. Also, for AVs using LIDAR (not Tesla) the 3m scotchlite on firetrucks should make a huge difference in detection range.
