Not in my experience. North or south, it was usually on the table by request, and late in the meal, in contrast to Japan and South Korea, where it was always present.
That #1 is based strictly on scale/population.
See, I used to watch American Idol. Like every episode. I was a huge fan. And the main thing I noticed when I watched the show was the distinct lack of anything motorsports related at all, other than the Ford product placement.
White rice isn't the main staple in China like it is in other Asian countries, BTW.
