Not familiar with the band and I don’t watch Bill Maher. The clip worked without the Muslim reference IMO. At least that’s the take away I got (the hair comparison) If the reference was to his religion, yeah - that is tasteless.

Except that the other band member with similar hair didn’t quit the band recently so the set up and punch line wouldn’t work.

I find it inconclusive from the clip that Maher knew he was a Muslim. Especially because he specifically says, “which one in the band were you?” To me, the joke seem to be more like, “all you boy banders look alike, I can’t tell you apart.” And it really did look like he was doing a comparison based on the similar…

I think that in our race to be outrage at something/someone we forget that we all have different experiences. I didn't even know what "blackface" was until a few years ago. YES...So YES!! There are definitely some pre schoolers that can read before kindergarten but they all equal out at around 3rd grade. And there are so many other factors that makes someone successful in the long run.
