As much as I’d love to think that’s a major part of the problem, I’m betting there’s also a LOT of subpar business decisions going on.

Unity has to become profitable first, which I think makes them more desperate to find “creative” ways to get that money from customers.
They currently earn just under $1 Billion in revenue a year, but appear to be spending about ~$1.2 Billion in expenses a year (on what, I have no idea).
I wouldn’t expect too much of a change in Unity’s direction long term. All you have to do is look up their quarterly updates since it’s all public information to see that they are still losing almost $200 million/yr on a nearly $1 Billion in Revenue. I.E. They are spending near $1.2 Billion/yr in costs. They have to…
Comparing PC gaming from that era to now is not genuine. Back then PC gaming was built largely for the best of the best hardware, was generally behind consoles in capabilities, and much more costly just to get a general use PC than it is today.
So what?!? You cannot build all your games on PC for the most top 25% of hardware. Most PC Gamers aren’t running top of the line hardware. Hell, most PC gamers aren’t even running recent hardware. Nvidia GeForce 10xx series GFX cards are still the most used on Steam. CPUs on Steam still hover around 2.3 - 2.9 GHz as…
Luke was trained by Jedi still tied to the “old ways” of the Jedi order. The characters that have mentioned the more expansive ideas about everyone having the force came from Jedi that were given different perspectives on the force from their own experiences and from other types of Force users. Specifically for Kanan…
That also doesn’t mean that all 50 devs were pulled from one project. That’s highly unlikely. Even if they were, they weren’t likely pulled all from the same team. Most dev teams aren’t anymore than 6-10 people (at most) due to the simply issues created with team velocity by adding more people. In all likelihood they…
That’s not true. As noted in this episode (and throughout the Prequels and Clone Wars) - The Jedi were overly selective based on innate talent, not potential. According to George Lucas, anyone can use the Force if they “take the time to do it”.
n software development, just adding or having more people working on a project doesn’t mean a project will be done faster or be more stable, in fact it can very well cause the project to take longer.
It’s also really really really important to note that Larian also generally doesn’t work on more than one game at a time. They have the ability to do that because they are still private and independent. Contrast that with Activision-Blizzard, Nintendo, Sony, MS, EA, etc - all of which are publicly traded companies and…
I wouldn’t necessarily expect a Divinity: Original Sin 3. The Divinity series is 6 games already and they’ve never gone more than two games with the exact same systems. Divine Divinity and Beyond Divinity were more a hybrid between Diablo and Baldur’s Gate. Divinity 2 was a 3rd person action RPG. Divinity: Dragon…
BG3 has a lot more of the D&D 5E types of mechanics. As such there are “dice rolls”, proficiencies, class restrictions, etc. The Divinity series is much more open in how you build your character.
Many aspects are similar, but go into BG3 expecting the tabletop mechanics and more complex and restrictive character builds
I believe it would violate Japanese law, which has strict laws against modifying hardware and software. I.E. Game modding is Illegal in Japan in most cases IIRC.
They have definitely brought that back from legends. You can see one in the latest Ahsoka trailer
I mean the only TTRPG full campaign book I’ve completed took a year to play through (Dungeon of the Mad Mage) and the other one I’m playing now has taken us 2 years and we’re still going (Curse of Strahd)
To me, Generative AI is meant to be a tool for anyone to use to improve their workflow or make the process simpler. Not only that, but it lowers the barrier to entry for people (like me) that aren’t as artistically inclined yet still have things we want to express about our experiences. To imply that the risk to…
The tools that are used for CGI, Photoshop, and even software tools are also trained on data. The companies producing that software is gathering data on how its used to improve the process for the users. A lot of times the “permission” you are talking about is implicit just by using the software. For example, an…
You’re implying that there is only one way for someone to feel connected with a creation or that humanity can only be generated by my hand painting. That also implies that anyone that doesn’t have the skill set to put what they are feeling down on paper using words/paint/marker/pencil or through music/song - then…
I still don’t see how that is any different than an artist that uses other artist’s work to build on their own work. This whole copyright thing is only a couple hundred years old - can you imagine how much progress would be held back in what we now call STEM and Medical if copyright (in its current form). Most of the…
While I understand your sentiment, it’s unrealistic that the Emperor’s plan was completely perfect - it’s always been a part of his characterization that while the Emperor generally was good at thinking of almost every angle of a problem and a master manipulator, his belief in his own infallibility was part of his…
