This is an excellent post. This articulates what I have been sensing when I see articles that tend to make Lupita seem "exotic". Written so much better than I could have done.

Yeah, I personally do think that she is incredibly beautiful, but I can see how it could be very offensive/troubling to see the way she has been presented by some media outlets. Frankly, I wish that there was more frequent variety of differing ethnicities/standards of beauty. It gets nauseating to see the same "type"

It depends on where you live. Where I live, 15% is completely standard.

Not that min. wage isn't still shit pay no matter how it's sliced, please note that unless the server makes min. wage for the given state/locality, the employer must ensure that they make at least that per hour for all hours worked if they encounter a swath of shitty tippers. I fear many servers do not understand

One waitress, Sarah Seckinger, plans to use the money to finish her degree in criminal justice so that she can become a police officer.

You (meaning the average person) have a direct one-on-one interaction with waitstaff more than you do with other minimum wage employees, therefore the emotional compulsion is that much stronger.

No kidding. When is the last time you tipped the cashier at Walmart for ringing you up.

If their tips add up to less than minimum wage, than it is the responsibility of the restaurant to make up the difference, so no, they aren't surviving on $2 an hour. I tip well but I still don't understand why everybody seems to feel so bad for waitresses and be so generous towards them but everyone else who lives on

Haha, ouch! That sounds painful. And I know what you mean. I haven't had a baby yet, but I already know that when I do, I'm not going to look like JWoww. ;)

Sigh that's nice for her I guess. I was already fat at 14 weeks.

Back when he was in the military, my husband knew at least one woman who ended up with serious damage to her abdominal muscles when they could no longer hold back the pregnancy. This was his attempt to make me feel better about being in not good shape when I got pregnant.

There was a woman in my small town/church community when I was growing up. Tiniest thing ever, just naturally rail thin. She'd get to easily 6 months without showing a bit, pop and have a small but not abnormally small pregnant belly, and then be back to rail thin in a month or so. She wasn't some fitness nut

On of my co-workers was like that. Another friend and I saw her in the hall and it was like she had become pregnant overnight. If you'd missed her announcement, you'd never have known until she was like 6.5 months along.

I didn't show until 6 months. And then I popped and didn't stop popping until I exploded and a baby appeared. This isn't news.

Ha! For me it was at about the 5 month stage that people started saying "I'll get the next one" when I got into an elevator. I think it was some combination of not thinking they would fit in there with me and fear that if they did fit in the lift would break down just as I went into labour and they would be stuck

Hint: in these kinds of photos, you're not supposed to suck it in.

It's not that unusual for bellies to take a while to "pop," especially with a first pregnancy and/or if the mom has very strong abs.

Not when I have to sift through loads of Lena Dunham/Jennifer Lawrence bullshit.

Anyone else growing increasingly uncomfortable with this site's relentless, pointed obsession with the physical appearance of Lupita Nyong'o? It's bordering on fetishization.
