I would think maybe its more about the libel of their IP than the motivation for piracy. Technically you can rip your own rom from the physical device and apply the mod.... But rebranding their IP as “Super Maniac Bros” or “Super Sonic Bros” might be taken more as a defamation suit.

This is what I seem to understand that nobody else gets yet.... Stop making smart tvs and just rely on the 4 remaining providers of smart sticks/boxes for content. This ensures apps will be supported going forward, and to upgrade to a smarter tv, you simply buy a new $40 stick rather than a $3000 tv.
