I went to college in Birmingham, and what surprises me is that its at Samford. The school itself always had a very lefty vibe. Birmingham itself is the mostly black democrat exception to the rest of Alabama. Kinda like Austin is an island of progressive hipsters in a land of conservative ranchers.

I recently discovered the term sousveillance which is the opposite of surveillance. It’s watching from below. The idea is that government is kept in check through constant observations. A sort of reverse 1984. This seems to be part of the trend.
