The thing is I bet the confidential nature of jury deliberations makes it hard to figure out if your experience is typical. I would guess that each jury is different. In your case, as awful as the process was for you, it sounds like the system worked.

That is not necessarily true. It depends on the length of the case. In a big case it could take a day or two just to examine all the evidence and understand the jury instructions.

This happened not so long ago in my town. It was not a buffet but a white table cloth kind of thing. Essentially the manager argued that all his employees were on salary so did not get overtime pay. He then learned that was not how that worked. The restaurant closed before I could eat there.
