If it was their own created content, it probably would be paid dlc. This is more exclusive content like celebrating a series anniversary or a holiday special event or something.
No matter how much rage is targeted towards EA, Battlefield and other EA series always get improved every release instead of using the same damn engine with a couple touch-ups and color changes.

Even if DLC was in the core game already, gamers would STILL complain about other DLC coming out after the release.
Its also known, for various other games, customers buy games expecting it to run on their computers easily without looking at the specs. That is probably a small percentage but can be a vocal topic on the internet.

Not EA's solution. It is more Valve's solution because they don't call it drm. They mix the drm with the online features so people don't notice. It is called a service and it is for the gamers.
