You’re absolutely right that the “free” college thing was a wild exaggeration, I should have known better to put it that way and will own up to that. It’s a complicated plan overall, but here’s a general overview of what I was talking about: http://time.com/money/3990445/…

Yes, which is despicable. You know what? Find me a goddamn president of the United States in the last century who shouldn’t by all rights be brought to trial for war crimes. Anybody involved with major decisions at the international level in this country has blood on their hands, and even if Jill Stein were to win the

If they are basing this at all off of the IDW comics, then my every dream will come true. Transformers has pulled off some remarkably smart content for kids over the years (TF Animated, Beast Wars, etc.), but the comics (particularly More Than Meets the Eye) have honestly been better than anything bearing the name

Came here for this, not disappointed.

Everybody here has given a ton of good reasons why it became such a cult favorite, but there’s one other key factor to keep in mind: it took forever for them to release the original cartoon series on VHS (I think it might not have happened until DVD, but I might be wrong). The movie, on the other hand, went straight

I’m not normally much of a “rah rah” military type, but saying that what’s happened in Iraq and Afghanistan is an indication US ground forces are somehow ill-trained is missing the point. In virtually any straight-up fight, US forces absolutely trounced their opposition. And even in the incredibly messy urban combat

I mostly loved it as well, but I kept feeling like the blaster noises were toned down (to a degree that I found distracting, ironically enough).

Gorgeous, AND completely faithful to the established technobabble representation of a warp field.

The Paramount and CBS split made for a weird deal regarding Star Trek - Paramount gets the movie rights to the franchise, CBS gets the TV rights. So it’s a pretty safe bet that there will be little-to-no connection between the new series and the movies.

Not tonight!

I figured that was obvious enough to not need any mention. The same for the Soviets under Stalin (neither of them really count as “old colonial powers” - both the Nazis and the Soviets were a very, very new thing).

I’ll ignore the unnecessarily hostile tone and just point out that the ultimate resolution of the Great War was hardly one that made “zero difference” to Americans.

Hell, many of the old battlefields are still off-limits to the public, since old munitions still have a nasty habit of popping up and killing people every year, and the level of contamination in the soil will keep many places unsafe for thousands of years.

Like I said in an earlier comment, Claudia Gray is easily the best of the post-EU writers (and is a hell of a lot better than most of the EU ones, frankly). Lost Stars was great, and I’ve been itching to check this one out since it was first announced. (Naturally, they decided to release it during finals week)

For what it’s worth, Claudia Gray did excellent work writing Lost Stars. A lot of people consider it the best SW novel to have come out since the EU purge.

Catharsis, yo. Some of us deal with the stress of the horrifying aspects of life by watching it play out in front of us on the screen, follow through withit emotionally, and then get the relief after the end when it sinks in that it wasn’t real. Massive stress reliever, with a giddy high to boot.

In terms of where things are going with Dorne, I’m now firmly in the camp of people who believe that the Sand Snakes are going to eventually ally themselves with Daenerys (or get conquered by her). Their whole “we will bow to no men” vow at the end is practically begging for it.

While audiences might not be as good at sorting this stuff out as we’d like to think, I do think that those who can’t quite figure out have gotten pretty good at just rolling with it. I really can’t see how the Marvel movies would be doing as well as they have been otherwise.
