Where do you live? Because in some parts of the country, wind chill is a VERY important factor to consider. I'm from the Midwest and am visiting there now (whywhywhyWHY), and wind chill has always been treated as a BFD my entire life.

What a pearl clutcher.

Most that I've known aren't lazy so much as they often have, uh, different uses for their time and energy.

Oh, I totally agree, this stuff needs to be taken with a grain of salt, correlation ≠ causation, etc. Another reason I like OKC's stuff - they tend to be a lot better about reminding people of that!

OKCupid actually does some amazing data analysis of its users' behaviors over time. This is by Harvard math graduates, so they don't take their job lightly, and it does give some remarkable insight into how the site is used based around issues like race, gender, class, etc.

I remember back in grad school how there was a certain time of the year when berries would fall off a large cluster of trees in the central part of campus and ferment. The birds in the area would go crazy eating those berries, and then would inevitably alarm the hell out of first year students as they stumbled around,

I believe it. The human body seems to take well to moderate levels of all kinds of "bad" things.

Speaking as a former evangelical (now atheist), I can say that there are absolutely those who fit that description.

The key thing to understanding marriage equality opponents is that they perceive all of human history, culture, politics, etc. as being an ongoing "test" by God to see if we will do as we're told.

I'm right there with you, but I prefer to present it in a slightly less hostile fashion:

"GOD"

As awful as this is, I could see somebody with a lot of money to throw away wanting to buy this as a conversation piece.

Would much rather see Wonder Woman's love affair with her Even More Awesome God-Mode Powers.

For for all the hemming and hawing about bootstraps and God helping those who help themselves, the Bible is just too insistent about the need for charity to completely ignore it without some serious cognitive dissonance.

Now playing

"For Whom the Bell Tolls." Link to the song here:

Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?

The backlash against Adderall is unfortunate for those of us with honest-to-goodness ADHD. I'm actually fairly secretive about the fact that I'm on it because I'm sick of the judgmental "that's so overprescribed" and "you're just making the ADHD up so you can get a performance enhancer" accusations.

It's the textual equivalent of, "Don't forget to SMILE! ALL THE TIME! or people will think you're a BITCH!" And just as men can get away with having a relatively neutral expression most of the time, they can also afford to be less effusive with the punctuation while texting.

If there's one thing I never envy professional actresses and actors, it's working in a profession where people being openly judgmental about your appearance is not only okay, it's one of the defining elements of the job.
