The flaw in the study is that they only surveyed tablet owners. People who already have a tablet will play games on it, and be less likely to buy a portable. That doesn't mean the average gamer would be less likely to buy a portable just because tablets exist.

To really be fair, Europe has had nowhere near the influence on the medium throughout it's history than Japan has.

Sure, a blu-ray player will play DVDs. It won't play laser disks. It won't play VHS tapes. DVD was not the original media that Citizen Kane was sold on.

One of the reasons the launch ps3 was so expensive was that it essentially had a ps2 inside as well. Cutting that out was one of the reasons they were able to drop the price so much. So do you want the cheap system, or do you want the backward compatibility?
