I couldn't disagree more. The puzzles were the meat of the game, creative and challenging.

I think that Catherine was one of the most intelligent games I've ever played, both in gameplay and story.

Yes, Shoot-em-ups are typically forced-scrolling shooters, like Psikyo or Cave games.
