I will admit to just being a bitter old redneck talking shit on the Internet. Ernie was a hard charger and had Apollo astronaut sized balls. One of my favorite NASCAR moments is when Ernie popped open his fire suit to reveal the Davey Allison shirt he was wearing.

How about this.... I shed a tear for Neil Bonnett’s career that was ruined by Swervin’ Irvan at Darlington in 1990. It’s easy to look at the head trauma caused by Ernie driving like a jackass while 10 laps down and think maybe that played a small role in helping kill him during that practice crash at Daytona.
