I've always used my own cable equipment—modems and cable boxes. Pays for itself after a year or so. Some people love renting for the support aspect. If the equipment breaks, Kabletown sends them a new one.

Not all free apps have ads, though. My own free app is a feature-limited demo of my paid app. Neither has ads. The free version is downloaded 5 times as much as the paid version, but I consider it to be promotion for the paid version.

I've been shaving in exactly this way for a couple of years and I absolutely love it. I only shave every couple of days, but when I do, my face is baby-butt smooth and I smell like a god.
