The last generation cars had the engine NVH of a 20 year old VW Mk3 AHU. They were heinously loud compared to the modern VW offerings. When I heard it my head was on a swivel looking for a hidden Mk3 Jetta.

I hope they get it sorted and into the current millennium with this new engine.

On new cars they’re mandated by the EU to list the material unless the part is physically too small to take the label.

I ran IMDS/recyclability compliance for a major brake manufacture (among other things). It was interesting for being all paperwork.

People also don’t realize how ozone and UV can degrade plastics so quickly. If it’s over 10 years old every, and I mean every bit of critical rubber needs to be replaced. Otherwise you’ll never get back to that factory ride and feel.

Plastic is not just plastic. The base material, more importantly the plasticisers BMW used could be different for environmental/recyclability or performance reasons than other non EU manufactured parts.

In my experience they don’t turn to dust worse than any other automotive plastics. Now more time at higher

My OM617 did 28,000 KM while I was taking a nap.

No one remembers when the E36 was new. Plastic gets old, it lives a hard life under hood. If you replaced stuff after 5 years, and every 5 years after that you’re mostly ok.

It’s when you “Get a good deal” ignore the deferred maintenance and then get pissed because 20 year old plastic is unreliable.

The same goes for

My Girlfriend says that when we’re driving and I get real quiet all of a sudden.

I thought the point was a fullsize truck with serious off road capability? If you need to haul 7 people off road the G is not your answer.

I realize they’re apples and oranges but you’re looking at 30k for not a wrangler vs 60k+ for what you’d need to build the Nissan.

You can find a 2008 for 50k a 2010 for 60k. Also I think the G has a higher price floor than a heavily modified Armada. They don’t seem to dip below 30k so you’ll get more money out if you

Are you the 3rd owner?

Because you can get a lightly used G with all the suspension and off road upgrades already done for the same or significantly less money.

Comparing a bit of apples or oranges here but a 2004 ish G is around 30k with all the upgrades you’d want.

Sure, but still for most people wanting to go off road that’s a ton of money. I think you’d be better suited with a used G Klass. All the off road tech baked in from the factory.

How much are aftermarket lockers? They can’t be much over $1400 each.

Anyone that “Claims 1000 HP“ I peg at 650 on the high end.

45k just to get in the door plus an easy 20k in modifications? That’s a tough pill to swallow.

I strongly believe in the a shop/yard cat. They don’t get into the chemicals and I keep an eye on them to make sure they’re not oily.

I actually stole this from the internet, I’m a terrible manipulative person. I do have a less adorable shop cat however.

I keep these guys around for emotional support, I wrench on 30+ year old German cars...

EB, I think it’s an Eddie Bauer edition.

This is why everyone in every industry needs Six Sigma techniques.
