I’m going to have the thing forever (15 years) and buying one used with 20k miles is the same or more expensive than buying new. I don’t really want to buy a truck with 100k of wear on it just to get the diesel. All the other parts of the truck have a life span too, not just the drivetrain. I don’t want the Ultra XXX

I’m doing all my looking on the internet. I’m ok with flying cross country to get the right truck at the right price. Plus roadtrip! I can’t complain about that.

I’ll have to call around. My local dealers would not allow it.

Because a base F 250 gasser is 24-26k. That a huge amount of capability. I can find a stripper 3.5 EB F 150 for around 18-20k. I don’t know any dealers that’ll let me tow with their brand new truck to make a decision.

I’ve owned a hoard of VW diesel all over 200k but they’re older and I was ok with having to diddle with them. For a truck I just want something that works, I don’t want to have to screw with it just to get my race car to the track.

A HD rated 3.5/3.7 or a 4.5 would be great. I don’t need the crazy power of a turbo 5.0 or 6.2. I’d just like to avoid the diesel route, if I can.

I’ve been burned bad by the 6.0 in the past. The thing is I don’t tow all that often and this truck won’t be my DD. It’s a race car hauler, Project car transport and something to pick up shop equipment like milling machines, lathes and the like.

I plan on keeping it 15 years, but I’ll only but 5,ooo miles or so a year

I was really hoping for an ecoboost in the super duty. I don’t want to deal with the diesel initial cost and maintenance but I want the way a turbocharged motor tows. The 6.2 is a solid motor but not the towing experience I’m looking for.

I really really doubt that. That number is going to be based on some bit of truth.

I did some digging. It’s actually confusing as hell.

So once you start work for the day you have a 14 hour clock. Of that 14 hours 11 hours can be driving.

Once you reach 14 hours you need to take 10 hours off not driving (maybe working at all) but you can’t drive for more than 8 hours unless you take a 30 min rest

FCA has NG trucks running all over the surface streets of Detroit. The Tesla version could easily fill that role. I bet Tesla has an agreement with Farady on the long haul sector.

My Grandfather had almost that exact discussion with me in ‘89. Teslas ideas are not new, they're simply at the right place at the right time with major financial backing.

Truckers taking time for lunch? It’s different across the pond. Here they don’t even stop to pee, never mind lunch.

I’ve driven a 4C and a new Miata (close) they’re absolutely apples and oranges chassis dynamics wise. Like fruit from different planets. A car is far more than the engine that powers it. That said I’ll still take a 124 test drive.

The first gen was a kludge to an existing vehicle when Magna came to Chrysler and said “Hey look what I have!” The new system is greatly simplified and better integrated because it was designed in from the start.

Ya’ll are going to see my crankshaft.

Or come to Detroit where the real boys play.

This is why you buy a Nissan Vera for 8-10k new or a Fiesta for 14k.

When you are just starting out why would you expect to be able to afford the car of an established adult?

Solar roofs do not make sense. It’s cheaper for a major utility to buy up cheap land and build huge swaths of solar than for individuals to buy one roof at a time.

This. This is what Jalopnik was like back in the day.
