Maybe, there's no reason to believe anything Tuiasosopo says and Manti could very easily prove his case by releasing his phone records, but won't.

At this point it seems Manti probably wasn't involved, not because there are any facts to varify his story (there aren't) but because the idea that he was stupid enough to fall for all this is more believable than the idea that he was smart enough to orchestrate the hoax.

Manti could've very easily solved all this by releasing his phone records from day one. That's what it all comes down to.
