Other way around. Taiwan is ethnically Chinese/indigenous people, but is politically not Communist, and considers itself a separate country. China considers Taiwan a self-administered province, much like the Hong Kong situation. Lots of political issues leftover from the Communist Revolution.

Also, don’t forget the effects of something as simple as the invention of the mechanical pencil.
