Adjust your sarcasm detector. Rosenwaltz is judging the asshole friend who victim-blames Kasandra Perkins for being murdered by the father of her child (or as the emailer calls her, "the catalyst to this incident"). The original email passage Rosen quotes from, and then riffs on, is doing little more than calling

Agreed in whole. In the pre-Kinja days, too, I think we'd see a lot less of the defenders that we've had here, because Deadspin really screened out the knee-jerking voices (of every kind) from having any commenting privileges. I am relieved that I don't see the regulars or long-term commenters jumping on the Empathy

Yup, and if the woman who killed McNair had problems - drugs, alcohol, a physical injury that caused her brain damage or mental illness - I'd be stunned if many (if any) used that factor to "understand" her any better. She's just another crazy in the stereotype of crazy girlfriends.

I just had another comparative thought: when Steve McNair was murdered by his mistress. I'm fairly sure, from memory alone, there was no great need to "understand" why she did killed him. It was simply accepted that she snapped/was nuts, period.

If Cherica had not gotten that statement out to 911, that she thought it was her "baby's daddy" who did it to her, he probably would have completely gotten away with everything. Her child is just beautiful.

Now playing

Of course, that leads me to a depressing place where I realize that people are potentially more willing to sympathize with a murderer if he was "only" after a woman versus an unborn child.

Okay, so just so we know: killing someone before one kills oneself tugs at your heartstrings. Got it.

Of course. But publishing an email that makes the murdered girlfriend's actions the definitive "catalyst" for her own murder is a pointless exercise in sensationalism.

No, please, I think I would have responded the same as you had my comments been made by someone else. They weren't very clear, so I appreciate the prompt and opportunity to make them clear.

I'm just curious, do you extend this same courtesy of understanding to Rae Carruth?

Then again, her friends haven't blabbed to Deadspin yet.

I totally agree, and apologize if I came across as believing that - you are absolutely right. I just wanted to make the point to those who think Belcher's mental state is of the utmost importance that no, it is not. I didn't meant to imply whatsoever that the victim is responsible - it just bothers me that one is

But the original poster's point is a possible factor as well. Although it is not recognized separately by DSM (as far as I understand) it is recognized if it meets certain criteria under a major depressive episode and PPD onset. The understanding must be applied to both sides.

Hot on the town in search of the elusive MTW ATM.

I don't think anything can top Corso strangling the duck last week. Does anyone know the fate of the duck?

Yes I was being serious. I didn't have all day to troll Deadspin for articles. I appreciate the heads up but there was no need to inject a lever of douche into it. Sorry I didn't spend all my weekend cataloging Gawker Media posts - then again, that's more a point in my favor, I think.

Yes some people cared. Go back to youtube if you don't.
