Great article... albeit a little dated, now. As I write this on 14 October 2013, we're up to Android OS version 4.2 or even 4.3 on many phones; and 4.5 (all called "Jelly Bean") is bleeding-edge. Many, many phones, at this writing, are at 4.1.2 Jelly Bean...

Hi, @themope. Sorry it took so long to reply. I let a little more time lapse between visits to LifeHacker than I normally do.

I love Shush! I'm one of its earliest users.

So, then... what? You would have this publication always tell us about nothing but the best-of-breed stuff out there, bt not also tell us about any runner-ups? Best-of-breed only? That's it?

Cerberus is definitely better...

Having just moved from an original Samsung Galaxy Note (SGH-i717) up to a Galaxy Note II (SGH-i317), I have, needless to say, investigated just about all of them. As it turns out, the S-Note app that comes with the Note II doesn't suck as much as I thought it would; but, of course, it's an S-Pen-only app that comes

Chrome for Android is just not ready for primetime, and it's as simple as that. Heck, if you think about it, it has taken until almost now to finally get Chrome for Windows to more or less behave itself. None of us should hold our breaths for Chrome for Android to be spectacular. It's gonna' take a while. In the

I must agree on Shush! I rather love it. It's beyond simple, and really works. Any time you silence the phone, Shush! pops-up and asks, simply, if you'd like to set how long the phone should be silenced (so that it can turn its sound back on afterward, in case you forget to), or if the silence should be indefinite.

For the longest time, the most basic, straightforward, no-nonsense QR Code reader was what most consider the almost "mothership" of QR Code reader/scanners: Barcode Scanner by Zxing Team. Most any app out there which is capable of doing something-or-another with QR codes, but which doesn't have a QR code scanner

Moboplayer, while seemingly long in the tooth because though it has been kept up-to-date, it looks and behaves about the same as it always did, and its interface, therefore, is dated...

WHEN IS LIFEHACKER/GAWKER GOING TO GET SERIOUS ABOUT FINDING AND REMOVING ALL THE SPAM POSTINGS IN THE COMMENTS HERE?!? Every comment section is just filled with them, now. Vast amounts of at least my time are being wasted by my having to read at least the first few words of them before figuring out that they're

I think Ezra Klein has it right.

The Coffitivity website must be conflicting with one my browser extensions/plug-ins or something. Out of three visits to it, two of them crashed the browser; with one of the crashes being of sufficient severity that the whole machine froze for maybe 90 secconds, give or take, before the browser crash pop-up appeared.

Android

It's a nice idea, on paper...
