You are giving the distinction in this comment, through your own examples. Refusing service, withholding medicine, these are things done to another person. A woman’s religious coverings are hers.People demanding that the coverings be banned are much more like the religious doctors and business owners because they

I hope that your Beyonce armor helps this to be a great year!

Honestly if all you see is an echo chamber full of snark, why are you here? To be perfectly honest, that question is rhetorical. You don’t recognize the value and necessity of disentangling all the shitty assumptions from our collective attitudes, I’ll never agree with pretending that’s somehow in conflict with cancer

Telling people to keep doing something (after taking pains to show it’s not a thing you personally do) if it makes them happy is mutually exclusive from acknowledging that thing as vital. Maybe you don’t mean to seem dismissive, but it still comes off that way.

Congratulations, you are me! I am congratulating myself on the reverse. Have you heard the audio commentary from RDJ and Val Kilmer?

Julianne lost all credibility with that paragraph, sorry not sorry!

That wedding represented her effort to go straight, and once it was taken from her it ceased to matter, I think. Not even mad really, considering the harm they did to her directly. But I would never agree that this is a gender flip of the avenging the fridged woman trope.

I’ve only seen her in I Heart Huckabees, but when she says “Listen. This is your mother” that delivery is so incredible. I’d love to see more of her work!

Also, it’s almost always male directors and writers fantasizing about the rape of a woman or girl, so that they can then fantasize about the revenge part. I fucking hate it.

My emotions about Kiss Kiss Bang Bang are so confused because I love it but Harry says some wack shit at times about female sexuality and I’m pretty sure we’re meant to know that he’s wrong (“Raise your hand if you hate Harry!”) but also I’m not sure it’s clear enough for most viewers. Feel free to ignore this

But she kind of never mentions him once she’s on her rampage, right? I mean, we call her The Bride but her actual motivation seems more to be that 1) they betrayed and nearly killed her 2) (she thinks) they killed her baby.

I love that you could all watch it together like that, what a great idea!

Just to be clear, are you saying that a colleague’s need for a hug in some situations can supercede one’s preference not to hug?
If you’re saying that a person hugging someone in a professional setting shouldn’t be automatically frowned on in every case, that I can agree with.

LOL This is so rude but also correct which makes it so much more rude.

I think it’s just that once it became common, and especially when people who are glamorous (positive and negative connotations apply) like the Kardashians were seen doing it, people felt like they’d been given permission. Rather than it introduced a desire. Of course, 100% of people don’t have the same motivation.

I’m only starting a solo comment about this because it would be a crime to dilute a perfect thread. But I had to say that the thread that starts with Starbuck’s Mom is art. This post is also A+

This is most certainly a stage on everyone’s* journey.

I care that major news outlets are really talking about it SO MUCH. Man Who Made Himself Irrelevant Did Incredibly Predictable Thing is all the had to give it, on a news ticker. I know they suck, but this seems particularly egregious when a very interesting debate about protest and patriotism is going on in an

Is this...intentionally stupid? To make a point about....
