Well, Joan of Snark was definitely a Jezebel parody. But I think it was lampooning the varied tone of Jezebel, and definitely referring to the criticism at that time the The Daily Show was, creatively, a boy's club.

No, this is simple. There is literally no other demographic that has to watch white men play its roles. Period. I'm not comparing that with other problems, you'll notice. I'm saying that specific thing is a problem unique to trans women.

I would love to talk about the aggression behind tropes like that, written primarily by white men. It's literally one of my favorite topics. But I'm specifically talking about watching yet another man in a dress play a trans woman. That's a specific kind of fucked up.

I'm talking about not even being able to play roles. Most of us feel pretty frustrated at the glut of roles filled by white actors. Having one of them play YOU is a special slap in the face.

I would put a finer point on this and say the pont was about how racist Hollywood is. Getting a white Australian actor to play a black American character. I may be giving them too much credit, but even if unintentional it was solid criticism.

My take is she's not at all poking fun at herself. She's making fun of her detractors. And the fact that she exaggerated the white makeup, suggesting there's dark skin underneath is like secret inception blackface. She really is a pioneer in ways to keep that tradition alive.

Yeah, something's weird in a maybe less obvious way than just they're fucking too. I rewatched the first episode, when he comes in and she jumps up and kisses his cheek, for all the world like Daddy just came home...missed that on first viewing.
