I live on Maui. We’re great if you have a stroke, or so I’m told, but over booked facilities, better docs elsewhere, and remoteness are issues. Doctors make less here because they sell the sunshine as a benefit. There’s less competition for employment than for employers.

The health care has a huge caveat: you need to be on Oahu. The outer islands are not as well provided for. The life expectancy probably has a big influence from the fact families are still relatively close together. Somebody can take the grandparents to the doctor and care for them most of the time.
