I think they all have heard of it. Just.. most of them have trouble telling if the hero outsmarted something or if it was bullshit. As mostly it's kind of bullshit. But that is also getting into the role of an editor who is supposed to say "NO!".. unless the deadline is now, in which case there isn't a choice.

Yes and no. A hero finds a way around the problem through being clever. Even classic heroes. Ever read/hear of/watch something based on The Odyssey? He wins most of the time by being cleaver, and is the template from which almost all heroes derive.
