I hated Rogue One because it was a beautiful movie stuffed full of dubious plotting and idiotic nostalgia-stuff (all of which predated Gilroy’s involvement with it, I note), and had zero emotional punch because it totally failed to earn any.

It centers the whole story around the male heir. That undercuts the powerful narrative of the women of Wakanda, articulating that their only truly important role is mother.

Seriously. Is there any one shot in a movie that has made more people feel happier and full of hope? I’ll never understand these weird nerds that manage to find a problem with the greatest of everything.

Doesn’t this scene undercut the way in which the movie really centered the women of Wakanda? It’s kind of like, ‘ok, and now a man is going to be back at the center of the story - just gotta age him up a bit and all will be back to ‘normal’’.

If that is truly a thing that’s important to you, you’re even sadder than I initially thought.
