The difference being that the Xenosaga series' plot is evocative whereas the closest FFXIII got to being evocative was Barthadelus' theme song.

I have no problem with the ambiance and mood that actual musical aspects of the song provide to the accompanying game area, in fact, in that respect, the song is quite successful. However, the lyrics feel like they were pulled from a rap in one of the Sesame Street episodes from the 90's.
