I watched the Charlie Rose interview with Shane Smith, and he explained a little about what caused the rift between them. Essentially Smith wanted to take the company in the direction of video/news/intellectual content, and I assume that means Gavin wanted to just keep doing Street Carnage-type/hipster troll stuff.

Has Shane Smith ever said anything about him and his slide into head-scratching libertarian Conservatism? I mean... Gavin has pretty much evolved into something that's the total opposite of your average Vice reader and/or New York Hipster. I can't imagine Shane and Gavin are on any kind of speaking terms.
