I was really excited thinking that all of that would fold away. Then I saw the pics in the comments and realized that this is just an over complicated (read: over weight) targa top. I would rather have seen them use this design to built a proper fixed roof coup.

It's all about fuel economy. Big V8s with good low end torque really benefit from being able to cruise at high speed and low RPM.
