The F-Type is sublime. It has wonderful driving dynamics, plenty of power, and effortless good looks, the sort that can only be achieved by the long-hood-short-deck template. There’s not a good way to do that with a mid-engined architecture.

The VW is nicer on the inside. The Subaru is more capable and less likely to end up back at the dealer for repairs. Depends on your priorities.

Sleeper cars are like alternative music and religious faith. They exist only in opposition to something else. When everybody is stuffing monster engines into sedans and SUVs, there’s no longer such a thing as a sleeper car.
My debadged blue and silver Outback XT with a manual and a tune does a pretty good job of being sleeper-ish. Plus I’ve slept in the back, so it’s sort of a sleeper that you can sleep in.
