You spend years and years in gray purgatory until the kinja gods decide you are witty, clever and prolific enough to bestow non-gray status upon you. In many cases it never happens and in some cases it is bestowed and then unceremoniously taken away from you. The kinja gods are capricious.

Signage is actually a huge point of conversation and debate amongst curators—they go mad trying to figure out what variety of “do not touch” will result in less touching in museums.
