After you've spoken to Liara in the Presidium, Aethyta's at the cafe, the spot where the C-Sec agent is trying to convince the Cafe Owner to turn over surveillance tapes. You can get into a conversation and one of the things that comes up is that she's Liara's father.

Brienne gets a cameo in book 5 in Jaime's chapter, so she survives Lady Stoneheart's punishment, unless I'm misreading the order in which the events were supposed to have happened.
