Cork will probably always stick around, but crew caps really are superior. The plastic/rubber cork is a decent go-between, but I'm glad to see more and more manufacturers moving to screw caps.

There's nothing inherently wrong with using corn or rice in beer. Many classic styles use one or the other as a portion of their fermentable ingredients. They're a great way to lighten the body of a beer while retaining the character of other ingredients.
