If I argue that institutional racism has been effectively outlawed and eliminated, that makes me a racist?
This is the ratchet effect. It’s worth noting that the last ten years of the Academy were more racist than the previous ten years. The whole point is so white people can go, “But this year we weren’t as bad as we were last year!” and then proceed to be worse than they were in the previous ten years so they can be…
I’m not sure that alone makes you racist, but arguing that certainly demonstrates that you’re incredibly ignorant and out of touch with reality.
It feels a lot like “but we elected a Black president, so clearly we’re not racist.” Is it an incredibly awfully egregious example of the worst of racism in the Oscars? Gosh no. Is it something that people should bring up so we do better in he future? Absolutely.
Note that “Steve” never said what side he was on in those civil rights protests.

“We did all these non-racisms! Surely that buys us at least one racism we’re allowed to do?”
I don’t see race. I just see my friends, neighbors, and coworkers, and then the people working the register when we go out.”
A child of the 1760s? Whatever else happened during your upbringing, I can’t imagine it involved anyone actually teaching you how to write in English.
McDonlads hamburgers are the top grossing hamburger in America. There’s no way it’s the best burger.
Most of the replies show how much racism is still pervasive - even as the comments think they’re arguing their way out of it existing.
Its not a competition. More than one racist thing can be happening at the same time.
“This.... this is clickbait”
The racist commentators have come out to play on this one. Oh, I don’t mean racist, I mean the “I don’t see race” and “It’s a celebration of their song” and “they should just be grateful for acknowledgement” crowd. Totally different.
god i’m gonna regret replying to you but i’m bored. do you think Everything Everywhere All At Once was a foreign film? furthermore do you think it’s an award based on which movie grossed the most?
i don’t really have a take on this but i think it’s pretty interesting that all the replies are like “we fixed enough racism this year! stop whining and wait your turn!” like we awarded some asians with an award and now everyone should shut the fuck up forever. start with yourself
Only 2?
maybe just let people voice their disappointment. Nobody is saying that these performers didn’t do a wonderful job, they just didn’t provide proper representation.
