They are really scrambling here to blame ANYONE but the DNC and Hillary, who had the highest unfavorables of any Democratic candidate in the last few decades. Romney lost in 2012 with /less/ votes than Trump won with this year. Trump did not inspire a host of racists to crawl out from under their racism stones and

Trump won with less votes than Romney lost with in 2012. Obama had 5 million more voters in 2012 than Hillary did this year. What happened to them? Did they just decide they hated black people enough this year to not vote?

I’m sorry but you’re barking up the wrong tree. People distrusting the media was widespread WAY before what you’re talking about happened and it’s absurd to give them any responsibility for it.

Kotaku has really been extremely sparing about the political stuff, so I disagree. This is really the only post explicitly talking about just the election I’ve seen.

I was being sarcastic. I apparently really poorly worded that sarcasm. I point was that absolutely NOTHING was done or even suggested after 2000, not even extreme ridiculous things that apparently all these people that hate third parties would’ve been for. There are a few systems, like Maine’s recently passed ranked

And yet there are several million Obama 2012 voters that didn’t vote for Hillary this year. Trump won in 2016 with /less/ votes than Romney lost with in 2012. Trump did not inspire a bunch of secret KKK members to crawl out from their racism caves and vote for him, Hillary just lost a ton of people who voted for Obama

He’s probably referring to Warren, as she’s the MA Senator.

Unfortunately, this level-headed response may not be taken so well. I’m already seeing people respond to messages like this with, ‘Shut up white people, you must be blinded by your white privilege if you are not treating this as anything less than the

What the hell are YOU talking about? There are ways to vote, democratically, that eliminate the possibility of spoilers such as Maine’s ranked choice or a transferrable vote system. None of these were even seriously floated by the two major parties in power when this happened 16 years ago. Which isn’t even what really

Dems rolled over for the Republicans from ‘00 to ‘06, let’s see if history repeats itself.

The ‘banning third parties’ was meant to be more a hyperbolic extreme example and wasn’t meant to be taken seriously, just asking why these people complaining about this even want to allow people to vote third party if it’s so terrible. I’ve had to make this reply half a dozen times so I must’ve worded it poorly.

Apparently a lot of other people did too, I thought the ‘if they’re so terrible’ line would cut it but I definitely could’ve worded it better.

I meant eliminating third parties as an extreme, hyperbolic ‘solution’ as at least it’d have been SOMETHING. Every 4 years people complain about third parties and nothing is done about the ‘spoiler’ effect, like instituting ranked choice voting.

I’m a...troll? How? Apparently I should’ve included the sarcasm tag, because I used ‘banning third parties’ as an extreme example of at least SOMETHING people could’ve been doing while they’ve been bitching about them. Every 4 years I hear people complaining about ‘spoiler’ candidates, there are democratic solutions

There’s some third party candidates in very minor local elections, but First Past The Post is /designed/ to favor two parties. If a third party ever did get big, it’d just team up with another party so they can consistantly defeat the largest of the three. Ranked choice would get rid of this. There are a few

I certainly don’t agree with it, I voted LP in a swing state. But if third parties are evidently so evil, why are they even allowed on the ballot? Ranked choice would fix this without having to be all authoritarian about it, but at least banning third parties would’ve been /something/. I just hear complaining and

I more mean spoiler candidates in general, if people are going to be so insistent on blaming third parties for this even though I don’t think the result would’ve changed this time.

The issue is ‘spoiler’ candidates. There are system in place that wouldn’t require much change to anything that would eliminate a vote for third party being a ‘wasted’ vote or a ‘vote for someone else’s opponent’.

I voted LP in a swing state. I’m asking why people who are yelling at third party voters why they even tolerate them if voting third party is so terrible. Ranked choice would fix the ‘spoiler’ problem and result in fairer elections.

Like me? Man, I voted Libertarian in a swing state. I am Satan right now. I mean we have a problem the two main parties keep complaining about, we could’ve fixed it with ranked choice voting. Nobody cared, they’d rather just blame people voting for a different choice on the ballot. To those people insisting on blaming

Why didn’t you guys just make third parties illegal after 2000 if they’re so terrible? Fuck, why didn’t you guys do ABSOLUTELY. ANYTHING. about this problem when it happened sixteen years ago? I’m repeating myself but I haven’t heard a single goddamn argument explaining it. Libertarians can’t pass laws, they don’t
