I think Id go for a mazda speed 6. I really like AWD and the smaller the better for slipping through traffic. I would put a factory hood on it and maybe even add quick change toyota emblems. Quick change florida plates (here in texas) to Texas plates. I like the water based paint someone mentioned as well.

I often hold up the mazda protege 5 as the best car ever made when ALL factors are taken into account. But maaybe the toyota matrix/pontiac vibe is better in this case. I think there is a huge hole in the market for good cheap cars. Put some decent suspension geometry under the mirage, offer a 2.0 engine in addition to whatever 1.x fuel sipper they have and sell it fir 11k. Sell a #vanlife / minivan based on a workvan (NV200?) Platform for 14k and I might buy one.

I use my 6pt harness every day. I drive my v8 240sx basically as my only car, and it just feels right to be safe.

I have to dissagree. While it might be a little heavier, say 2700lbs. It could still be small, and the miata use case matches the electric drivetrain use case. Drive 30-60 miles a day, maybe a 100 mi jaunt on the weekend. Quiet, spritely, fun, and understated.
