The VA Secretary is a holdover from the Obama administration and is doing some great things in the areas of reform.

Also worth your time: “Zero Motivation” which I’m pretty sure is still on Netflix.
Agreed - it’s so stupid to have Emily V. Gordon playing a dramatized version of herself in a movie she co-wrote with her husband about their real life.
OK I’ll bite, what facts should I have corrected him on - because the context of the picture is pretty clear to me. Heck, I can even tell you the unit, probably down to the company/battery level, of the two soldiers standing with their backs to the camera in the foreground.
Real talk: his VA Secretary pick was an inspired decision. Shulkin’s an Obama holdover who was brought in after the VA scandal broke to improve things (which he’s been doing, despite what anecdotal narratives may say).
Oh God no - and I’m a Texas voter!
They do come in several different sizes, so my assumption is they threw some tape with his name on it so that they don’t get mixed up.
I spent 13 years on active duty (2x Iraq, 1x Afghanistan), and got out last year. Seeing pictures of Fifth Avenue fuckwits like this playing war tourist eliminates any regret I have about not staying in longer - and makes me feel awful for my friends still in.
I’m in the same boat in regards to horror movies, but still loved this movie. It’s definitely more of a thriller - general intense unease as things get progressively more unsettling, albeit with a jump scare or two for good measure. Much more in the vein of something like Rosemary’s Baby than say a Paranormal…
As a big fan of Frank Capra’s WWII documentaries, I can’t say enough about how amazing Let There Be Light is - truly powerful stories of G.I.s returning home with what we’d now call PTSD.
I still have that comic somewhere! I remember after the amulet was ripped out he ended up on some island or something and fought Venom. Ahhh the 90s...
Maybe not. Folks don’t realize how massive Texas’ economy is. Like a quarter trillion dollars in exports alone - and it’s not all oil and cattle either.
Strong job market, inexpensive(ish) housing, lots of great local food/arts/culture. Yeah there’s some bigoted shitheels in the government, but having lived all over this country (nine states and counting!), I can confidently say that bigoted shitheelery is not exclusive to Texas.
Who is Pharah having dinner with - and is that Canadian flag on the TV in the background some sort of Blizzard clue?
Yup! You’re talking about the WASPs from WWII - they flew and they didn’t even get veterans’ status until the late ‘70s. I was actually researching another AMAZING woman aviator from that era today, who literally trained hundreds of men to fly in combat. If you want more modern examples of women in direct combat check…
Interestingly enough, my day job now post-Army involves veteran outreach works - and specifically one of my main missions is running an awareness campaign to recognize the service and sacrifice of our women veterans.
Did two tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan as a combat photojournalist, and served alongside a ton of awesome women who were absolutely out in combat alongside their male counterparts - despite not being assigned to combat MOS’s.
“enticingly florid dialogue”
After 13 years and three deployments, I ETS’ed from the Army about eight months ago, and was seriously considering knocking out seven more years to make it to 20 for that sweet, sweet, government pension.
Well even then those forms of ID don’t always count.
