Skin grafts are super cool if you’re into that sort of science nerdiness. They are either full thickness (the epidermis and dermis are removed from the donor site) or split thickness (only the epidermis and a layer of the dermis are harvested). For split thickness grafts, they take such a thin layer of the skin that

I have a friend who spilled boiling water on his foot as a child. They grafted a patch from his butt, and now he has curly butt hairs on his butt-foot.

The first time I remember this move was the John Demjanjuk case throughout the 80s and into the early 2000s. He was a retiree from Cleveland who was accused of being Ivan the Terrible. He wasn’t convicted of that, but there is pretty solid evidence that he was a Nazi guard at a couple of concentration camps.* As his

In other coincidence news, Paul Manafort suddenly needed a wheelchair when he had a court date.

No, the answer is no. It does not make her racist for assuming that. Go back to Stormfront hon.

There has to be some element of a tendency to this kind of foot problem in the first place I would think? My feet don’t make corns, thank goodness. My toenails are not the greatest but they also aren’t going to turn into lumps the size the toe bro took off this guy. If I neglect my feet I get dry skin, calluses,

Everybody has their own sensitivities, I’m not bothered by that kind of stuff at all, but I would hork my guts out if I had to clean someone’s teeth.

I read about a podiatrist that one day a week offered free care to homeless people. He and his nurse went out to skid row to find the people most in need. Truly saints amongst people, but omg.

Fixing neglected feet is one of the most satisfying nursing tasks, ime. It’s a small thing in the grand scheme of healthcare, but the effects are immediate and afterwards the patient has functional/pain-free feet and they feel better. It's totally rewarding despite the occasional ick factor.

Or if he’s like me (I have a lump under my arm that I need to get checked out), he tried to make an appt. but the next available appt. wasn’t for 13 months.

I know somebody who is waiting until February for her absolutely necessary knee replacement, not by choice but because the only doctor who can do it within a hundred miles of her is booked out that far.  Yes, her list is triaged so the most urgent ones get seen first, which means there are people in far more dire

My last dog was extremely prone to developing lipomas. Vet said only to bother getting them removed if it was bothering the dog or causing issues or if they popped on their own. Biggest one was almost the size of a baseball when we said enough and had the vet take it off. That dog was awesome; he’d leave the things

I watched the rest of this episode and apparently David suffered several brain hemorrhages growing up due to the hemophilia and those affected his cognitive ability. And his mother died 5 years ago which seemingly caused a major depression though no one used the word “depression”. He subsequently neglected his feet,

I feel like this guy might have had some self-help issues: between his eyes, the hemophilia, and little snippets of his personality I see, I think he was very aware of the seriousness of the issue, but unable to do anything about it himself.

That’s what I was thinking. If anything, you’ve got people who know they aren’t alone in with their foot problems and that they don’t have to suffer. I can’t know how many people have seen a doctor after watching a show like this but frankly even if it’s only one person, that was worth it.

Oooor, someone who has their feet in a similar state because they’re afraid of the doctors can be shown this and see that it’s not that scary after all.

Yup, every time people complain about the idea of universal healthcare and how “socialized medicine will mean you will have to wait months to see a doctor”.....how exactly is that different from our current situation?!? You’ll have the same wait. But the bills won’t bankrupt you.

Pretty easily, actually. Lipomas are super common and they grow slowly enough for you to ignore.

That’s a big problem in dermatology. People with more urgent needs can’t see a doctor for weeks, but those who want the upscale big-$ cosmetic procedures can walk right in. God forbid your potential staph infection take priority over rich people who want their Botox.

I read the link, Manning is NOT being tortured. That word carries a connotation that isn’t being met by the evidence.
