I think "classic" may be a synonym for "multi-use tool" Go back a couple generations and you don't find the luxury of multiple gadgets, so the designs that became common were those that could do multiple things. My love is multi-use items. Not with decluttering in mind, but because if I can't see it I'll never use

@Koumo: Walnuts were the family thing for us, too, even though we always have enough of the coffee stuff around.

If you _must_ use oven cleaner, don't buy it new. There are enough of us who have moved to self-cleaning ovens or who choose to not use the noxious chemicals that have old stuff in forgotten storage. When I took chemicals to a safe-disposal site on behalf of my local church, I was surprised at how many partial

The following string will change the default printer as well:

Of course, this begs the question of when, if ever, it will be profitable enough for someone to create a whitepages type list for cell- and mobile phones, or which includes them.

@paqman: Of course, there are a couple further factors: Lower maintenance is a reality, even with standing cars, because some maintenance is determined by amount of usage, such as the every 5000km oil change. The other is the emissions factor and environmental costs. The cost to manufacture, run, repair,

@chaws: Here are just a few, off the top of my head, and away from my library at home

This is a wonderful condensation of a half-dozen or so books I've read in the last couple years on aspects of the topic of cognitive dissonance. @MightyJoe36: You are correct. I try to do that with the couple I did want to keep, and one does allow the phone number. Unfortunately, that is the one I am boycotting. My principle is the same, though, whether in card form or virtual, I don't want to do 'points' or whatever unless I would do that purchase there

Discount cards are put forth by the seller, so it is obviously to their advantage. My rule is that only if I am purchasing there anyway do they have any use to me, and should not influence the choice. As a result, I reduced my cards to two, and recently to one, as I feel the need to boycott the firm, despite the

@skorned: It is a stand on principle, along with awareness of what is possible, usually for gain, as much as anything else.

@GizChick: Amen. I come from a dry clime and never worried about static, as it always discharges, either fast or slow. I put the load of clothes on the chesterfield, get my coffee and whatever, and much of the static is gone within some minutes—the rest discharges through me to a ground, as you describe.
