I have used TVersity for a while with my 360, works great. (think it costs $3-4 now) I convert all my media with AirVideo, and that seems to be compatible with my Apple TV, iPads, kids iPods as well as the 360.

I simply purchased a 2nd laptop power supply for the office, and had one at home. With an easy 7-8 hours of battery life, I don't bother taking it with anymore.
