I know that Notch is an important figure in the gaming industry but how is this news?

She's not calling you or I immature

The articles were specifically calling out the idiots who were mailing the threats, pointing them to as a dying breed of gamer.

I agree (hmm—more hopeful, really) that disclosing the romantic relationship SHOULD address the conflict of interest. Transparency among journalists is important, after all. However, it didn't fix the problem.

I didn't say anything about me being mad, Silver. ;)

I agree with the sentiments behind #GamerGate and #NotYourShield, but come on—disagree with you here. Anita's tone is neutral. It's practically deadpan.

Erm, continuously making criticism of games out of context?

In the first case, we have anger over the absence of a non-news story...

There doesn't have to be any review. Ever. According to the Society of Professional Journalists code, journalists should: "Avoid conflicts of interest, real or perceived".

IMHO, your motivation to publish this story right now is a bit too convenient (and questionable), especially with Christina Sommers' video and that new piece on the #GameJournoPros Google group.

Too late.

Here is where games journalism fails us, IMHO. The Zoe Quinn story is a disgusting rabbit hole and I highly doubt the veracity of many of the details surrounding it. However, it would've been really helpful if major gaming websites shed some light on what was happening so that we can differentiate the truth from the

This.

Totally agree with you on this. The death and rape threats made against Zoe Quinn are a gross and inhuman.

So the gaming press reports Anita Sarkeesian's harassment, but not Zoe Quinn's?

A few things:

Actually, I think the conflict of interest is pretty much established. It's not just about Kotaku writers financially supporting Quinn in Patreon—Grayson admitted to their romantic relationship. He claims that the relationship started in early April and the article came out in late March, so Totilo says it's okay.

What about the DMCA takedowns in YouTube? Or the deleted Reddit comments and threads?

Bullshit. Remember Max Temkin?
