Yes my experience is that it really annoyed me that my friends were posting Allie's comic and saying things like "I've never experienced depression but everyone should read this because it's SPOT ON." That really annoyed me. I never said people were wrong to relate to it. Never. I specifically said that I was

I can't even. You're just making shit up at this point. Blind? Stupid? Nope never said or implied that.

Saying Allie's analysis of depression is lacking and immature isn't "a random personal insult," but calling someone a jerk because you disagree with their perception and opinion is. Allie once wrote a whole post about how depression was a super power. I think that's the definition of immature and lacking real self

Man, people are really coming swinging at me for this. I feel like randomly calling an internet stranger a jerk for expressing their opinion about a piece of art and the recent popularity of it is a whole lot more like being a jerk than anything I did.

I also did not really like it. I felt like it was so close and yet just entirely wrong. It's bugging the shit out of me that people are like "OMG perfect!! This is exactly what depression feels like!" Because if anything it's what their depression feels like. Not mine. I don't think Allie was claiming to speak

I'm currently really into Planet Money. People keep telling me I should listen to Radiolab but I can't get into it.

Huh, I know very little about the history of environmentalism but I feel like I totally see your point. I know a dude who is deeply concerned about the environment, and once overheard a conversation I was having with a friend about having kids and used it as an opportunity to lecture us on how unconscionable it is to

Anna, please considering not writing about science anymore. You're actively bad at it, and end up spreading a lot of misinformation. It's irresponsible and harmful.

They probably don't have anyone going through the content, but the thing is they should. Most well funded departments have someone on staff who is in charge of maintaining the department's web presence and will at least help professors make sure their websites don't look they were made my a 12 yr old. Because this

I mean on some level I agree, but also shit. I only clicked on the page because it was a .edu and sticking to sources with .edu is normally a pretty good guide for discerning what sources are reliable. And the way he has it structures his page, it's not clear what his training is in. It takes some research savvy to

I know UNC is actually a good school, but the other day I was googling for an article and stumbled on a computer science professor's university webpage that he was using as a "Creation Science" page. Being a researcher in radiocarbon dating, I've seen a lot of batshittery in my time, but this really took the cake. I

Mine was 3rd, but yep. We got great sex ed at my Catholic schools. But they were also mostly prep schools that happened to be parochial schools, so half assing sex ed would not have flown with the parents shelling out dough to get their kids fancy educations.

We got all this at my Catholic girls' school in the early 00's. There's liberal Catholics and conservative Catholics.

Yuck. I grew up on weekly menudo and never got into the tripe.

We actually do know a fair amount about Paleolithic humans and their diet, which is why Dr Zuk wrote a book about it. The evidence is firmly on the side of Zuk's camp, but yes people who do not have the necessary skills to interpret the literature can pull up and misinterpret research all they want.

Right, but as I mentioned in my edit, the question isn't whether or not it's healthy, it is. And Cordian can attest to that, sure. But the evolutionary reasons to adopt the diet are just non-existent, and Cordian and Wolf have zero authority in that field.

He has a BS from CSU Chico, California's noted party school, and worked as a lab tech for 5 yrs. That hardly makes you an expert on biochemistry. I'll go with the tenured professor over the lab tech.

Yeah it really bothers me for the same reason. Low carb, high protien, whole foods diet, sounds good to me! Enjoy! I'd have a lot more respect for the diet if people just left the fucking cavemen out of it.

Costco has a house brand of wine? I'd bet its actually really good because Costco's in house foods always are.

I cut down on cooking time by making big batches of things on the weekend and then reheating it throughout the week. I also will make double batches sometimes and freeze half of it for later. It works well for soups and casseroles.
