Yup, I’ll stand corrected on this one, I’m confusing a “branch of service” with “Department” , Marine Corp is a branch of service that is part of the Department of Navy.

Icebreakers don’t cut thick ice, they ride up on it and crush it with the weight of the ship.

Corollary 1 - same story for a cruise ship.  In the video, you can see the motors are pretty close to the back , just where the hull starts to narrow for the props.  But they had to do a sidecut because cruise ship superstructures run the entire length of the ship.

I wonder if there is a missing piece to this story, specific to how this is an icebreaker....

Isn’t it five counting the Space Force?

Have your star. Should I put in your pocket for you, you know, given the stumps?

Oh my.  I’m glad they spelled out Tiddy Bear every time they said it, because that was not what my brain was hearing.

Have you been to Italy? Everyone drives that fast on the highway...at least if traffic lets them...

that’s a good point on the lockdown.

So your analysis started in a good spot, but then commenters kind of took us off on a weird tangent.

This is true, and sometimes getting off the highway was faster, with that traffic. I just figured for his daily commute, he’s going to want the fastest way.

Nobody ever goes that fast there.

I was going to mention that too, southernmost US state, all that sun ain’t kind on the vehicle either.

It was more of an acrid smell, “oh that PC board doesn’t look right”, type of melting, not an open flame or anything.

Makes sense, I’ve just got no clue how many Minis even exist. Was thinking it was rare enough that they might not stock parts locally.

Which island? I’m not prying but I suspect it wasn’t Oahu, which is 90% paved roads in good condition -this guy’s commute is going to be on a 4-lane highway.

I’m assuming he is stationed on a ship , which means his hours are going to be pretty irregular. I lived in a house with four other junior officers, we rarely ever shared a ride to base, any given day is too unpredictable.

Good advice. My thoughts:

Can those go 65 mph? He’s got a 15 mile commute each way. Only way to do that on Oahu is going to put you on a highway for awhile.

That is obviously super dumb. But I think the issue may have had more causes than just the security screw failure mode illustrated. About a year ago I had a brand new Ring Doorbell melt itself and it hadn’t been installed yet. I had hooked it up to a transformer to configure the unit before installation. Ring replaced
