Corollary 1 - same story for a cruise ship.  In the video, you can see the motors are pretty close to the back , just where the hull starts to narrow for the props.  But they had to do a sidecut because cruise ship superstructures run the entire length of the ship.  

I wonder if there is a missing piece to this story, specific to how this is an icebreaker....

This is true, and sometimes getting off the highway was faster, with that traffic. I just figured for his daily commute, he’s going to want the fastest way.

I was going to mention that too, southernmost US state, all that sun ain’t kind on the vehicle either.  

It was more of an acrid smell, “oh that PC board doesn’t look right”, type of melting, not an open flame or anything.

I’m assuming he is stationed on a ship , which means his hours are going to be pretty irregular. I lived in a house with four other junior officers, we rarely ever shared a ride to base, any given day is too unpredictable.  

Good advice. My thoughts:

Can those go 65 mph? He’s got a 15 mile commute each way. Only way to do that on Oahu is going to put you on a highway for awhile.

That is obviously super dumb. But I think the issue may have had more causes than just the security screw failure mode illustrated.
