If you read her original article, she talks about taking him to the mental health institution, and it's done as a punishment rather than a strategy for long-term care. A lot of people end up in mental health clinics at various points in their lives without being what you would characterize as 'mentally ill'.

Sorry, but I can't really understand this sentiment... is there anyway you can express it as a numerical ranking?

Well, it's not too surprising that hundreds of hours of tests, interviews and observations would give a child something of a complex.

So I've got the hair of a 3, but the arms of a 7, and a face squarely in the 5 range. In profile though, I think the face ups itself to a 6, but only from the left side, from the right it's probably 5.5. at best. Right after showering, my skin is usually less dry, but it probably rotates throughout the 4-5 range

She says in the article that her son has not been diagnosed with any mental illness, so it's a little presumptuous to assume that her son is 'mentally disturbed'.

Yes, if only there were guns in Pakistan violence would never happen.

I know what you mean. I had some free time the other day so of course I headed over to my local McDonald's. And wouldn't you know it, they were closed! I must have spent at least twenty minutes in confusion repeatedly walking into the door because I am unable to even conceive of doing something or eating something

Your reification of "typical" brains is the source of your problem in understanding this.

Someone doesn't support the troops...

The "take down" of her own son that she posted is far more damaging and cruel than anything anyone else has said about her.

If her intention was just to share her own personal perspective raising her son, she wouldn't have given it such a stupid and attention-grabbing headline.

Rich people.

Seriously, this seems nothing more than cultural lag and the enduring legacy of past sexism. Which is not to say that sexism isn't still a huge issue, but it's only the present and the future that we can do anything about

Hey Vessie, this is just to remind you how dumb you are in case you forgot already!

Trade between prehistoric hunter-gatherer societies has pretty much nothing to do, historically or practically, with modern day capitalism.

While I am sympathetic to your perspective, and it was a lame joke, I do think the issue is a lot more complicated than that. Due to the way that our culture fetishizes and objectifies women's bodies, there are actually two different Angelina Jolies.

Rich white movie stars: the most oppressed.

While it's certainly possible for strikers to get overzealous, I don't think it detracts from the justness of their cause. And if you absolutely *must* cross a picket line (hard for me to imagine, but I won't dispute you), I still think some dirty looks are justified because, intentionally or not, you are working

All strikes are going to inconvenience consumers in some way, and you shouldn't patronize businesses where a strike is ongoing anyway.

That hug thing is the dumbest thing I've seen all week and this week I watched CNN.
