Historically (and in boxing), it is always "He who has longest arm." So whatever that might entail, whether air, surface or subsurface...but certainly "he who has best coordination of longest arm" will win the day.

Future of naval warfare will rarely, no....will never be between ships vs ships. It will be more like Navy ship vs Enemy jet, Air to Surface Missiles (or Air-launched anti-ship missiles), Cruise missiles, Land-based anti-ship missiles, and ballistic missiles.
