Yup. Bangle has stated in interviews that he was trying to mimic the architecture of Frank Gehry, especially the Guggenheim in Bilbao, and also Gaudi.

The concept version was really cool. It lost its grace on the road to production.

This is a really, really good point. But there are plenty of game-changing designs that were attractive: The ‘82 Audi 5000 & ‘82 Ford Taurus (same idea in two cars), the original Issigonis Mini, the first VW Rabbit, the Citroen XM...I could go on.

I’m not chiding anybody. Just expressing empathy for what the kids must be going through. I do construction and trades work myself, and I’m well aware that it’s risky.

Indeed. I’m rooting for this guy.

Nop, they were $55k new at minimum. And yeah, they are *way* better than a Miata.

I’m a middle-aged guy and I’m starting to get how old people get this way. It’s not that they “can’t” work it, it’s “won’t.” It’s not worth the time to learn to navigate all the crap user interfaces. Technology that steals time from me to make me learn it for some slight incremental benefit = a tiny mugger. The older

“Gaggle of kids” seems like the use case, but all the parents I know either bought the LTE-enabled iPads with a family cell plan, or have a WiFi hotspot in mom’s purse already. So the car hotspot seems awfully redundant, and an extra monthly bill for no reason.

Yes. It’s *way* too annoying to hook up Bluetooth in the cars we have with it, or the rentals I get when traveling. (I do use a wired headset and usually have it stuck in my ear already if I’m not in a meeting.)

Yeah, Jag only offers the manual with the V-6. V-8s are all automatic.

Thanks!

1) Is the ride quality good enough for daily driver duty? Worse/better as a DD than a 991GT3?

I’ve driven the newest GT3, on an actual racetrack. While it’s undoubtedly capable, I didn’t think it was *nearly* as fun to drive as a 997 GT3, or really any of the 997s I’ve driven.

Seems like a sensible pick. I think the smaller Subarus are getting overpriced for what they provide, and they’re not fun to drive like the older models were. I’d probably buy a Renegade or similar if I needed something small with 4wd.

Mostly it’s old people who have the cash and credit rating to spend $28k on a new car *and* want something like this. All the Millenials I know who actually have the income to swing a $350/month payment with $3500 down either (A) live in cities and will take Uber/Lyft rather than own a car, (B) have 40-mile commutes

Or a Kia Soul, which is fantastically well-packaged and actually fun to drive. The Soul also is proving to be reliable, and has a 10-year warranty to boot.

Great for gaming! Are LCD panels available for the back seat?

Er, what now?

There’s nothing about a wife that is ruined by her sleeping with another man (or woman). But smoking in a car ruins the driving experience forever.

5 kids. I know that guys like him take on big risks for the satisfaction of it, and their wives surely know what they’re getting into. But the kids didn’t have a choice in dad’s career.
